Meet the founder

A surgeon's perspective on a system-wide problem.

Dr Emeka Elumelu is an orthopaedic surgeon based in Ibadan and the founder of Synapse Digital Care. His clinical perspective brings him close to a persistent healthcare challenge: suitable expertise may exist, yet patients can still be delayed by distance, fragmented information, difficult referrals, transportation needs, and uncertainty about where to turn next.

He founded Synapse to help close those gaps. The vision is not technology for its own sake, but practical digital-health solutions that make access simpler, coordination more dependable, and the journey from first enquiry to suitable care easier to navigate.

That clinical foundation shapes how Synapse grows: responsibly, collaboratively, and with respect for the professionals who diagnose and treat. Synapse connects the services around care so patients, families, providers, and organisations can move forward with greater clarity.

The challenge

Healthcare access is more than finding a doctor.

A care journey can break down before, between, or after clinical appointments. Synapse focuses on the practical barriers that prevent people from reaching the right care at the right time.

01

Knowing where to begin

People often lose valuable time trying to identify the right professional, facility, service, or level of care.

02

Reaching suitable care

Distance, transport, referral requirements, limited information, and fragmented processes can make appropriate care difficult to reach.

03

Keeping the journey connected

Consultations, investigations, logistics, referrals, and follow-up work better when someone helps connect the moving parts.

The vision

Digital health that works in the real world.

Synapse is being built around the realities of accessing healthcare in Nigeria while creating responsible connections to wider specialist networks.

  • Make qualified consultations easier to access through telemedicine.
  • Coordinate transport and medical logistics when movement is part of the care plan.
  • Help patients and providers navigate specialist referrals within Nigeria.
  • Organise eligible international referrals when care across borders is being considered.
  • Build trusted pathways with healthcare providers, corporate organisations, and referral partners.

How we intend to grow

Clinically informed. Digitally enabled. Human at every step.

These principles guide the services Synapse offers, the partnerships it forms, and the solutions it builds.

01

Clinical perspective

Healthcare solutions should respect clinical judgement, patient safety, and the responsibilities of qualified professionals.

02

Practical innovation

Technology is valuable when it solves a real access problem, removes friction, or makes the next step easier to complete.

03

Human-centred access

Digital care should respond to the realities of patients, families, providers, and organisations—not expect people to fit the technology.

04

Responsible coordination

Clear communication, realistic expectations, suitable partners, and transparent next steps are essential to every care pathway.

A clearer way forward

Better care access starts with understanding the need.
